BEYOND THE NOTES: PETER MAXWELL DAVIES

Ensemble Perpetuo introduces composer PETER MAXWELL DAVIES through chamber music spanning his long and illustrious career. Taking you from his earliest printed string quartet through to one of his last completed works, the programme will also include renaissance music that inspired and influenced him, and the London premiere of Alasdair Nicolson’s Magnus III, a work written in memory of ‘Max’.

This event sees the launch of Ensemble Perpetuo’s innovative composer portrait series, BEYOND THE NOTES.  Joined by his long standing colleague and friend, Artistic Director of St. Magnus International Festival, Alasdair Nicolson, Perpetuo will guide you through the life, influences and works of Peter Maxwell Davies.   A fabulous opportunity to hear this music in a relaxed setting, the event is divided into 3 short sets of music and words, and will offer unique insights into his life and the inspiration behind the music of this great British composer.
