Youth Revisited
About

Music exploring the theme of childhood and youth, paired with visual and curatorial elements to create an immersive, multi-sensory concert experience.

Perpetuo has presented "Youth Revisited" in several forms, pairing chamber music inspired by childhood with complementary visual and curatorial strands, from museum-guided tours to gallery exhibitions.

One version took listeners of all ages on a musical tour through the V&A's Museum of Childhood, guided by curators from the museum, with music inspired by childhood from composers including Leoš Janáček, Colin Matthews, Georges Bizet, Adrian Sutton, Claude Debussy and others.

A related version, staged alongside a special exhibition from the London Photo Festival, formed a counterpoint between music for winds and photography exploring the theme of youth. Audiences were free to browse the exhibition while Perpetuo performed an afternoon of music exploring childhood:

  • Leoš Janáček: Mladi (Youth)
  • Colin Matthews: To Compose Without The Least Knowledge of Music
  • Georges Bizet: Jeux d'enfants (Wind Quintet arrangement)
  • Claude Debussy: Children's Corner (Wind Quintet arrangement)
  • Trygve Madsen: The Dream of the Rhinoceros for solo horn/wind quintet

Variations on this programme, with different repertoire, venues, and visual or curatorial partners, are available for future festival and concert series presentation.
