Perpetuo with Alex Jennings, presented by Chiltern Arts
Wednesday 20 May 2026, 7.30–9.30pm
All Saints' Church, The Causeway, Marlow SL7 2AA
PERPETUO — Fenella Humphreys (violin), Eoin Schmidt-Martin (viola), Cara Berridge (cello) and James Turnbull (oboe) — were joined by actor Alex Jennings (The Crown, The Lady in the Van) for an evening beside the Thames, tracing a river's journey from source to sea through music and words inspired by water and the natural world.
The programme paired chamber music with readings from both classic and contemporary writers, building a single unfolding narrative rather than a conventional concert sequence:
- Jean Sibelius — String Trio in G minor
- Benjamin Britten — Arethusa, from 6 Metamorphoses after Ovid, Op. 49
- Anna Berg — Earthward, Ever Circling (string trio) – UK premiere
- Jean Sibelius — Water Droplets
- Samuel Coleridge-Taylor — Deep River
- Schubert — String Trio in B flat
- Sally Beamish — The Lone Seafarer
- W.A. Mozart — Adagio for Cor Anglais and String Trio
- Adrian Sutton — Spring Masque
- Robert Schumann — Mondnacht
Plus literature and poetry readings performed by Alex Jennings
The concert was part of Chiltern Arts' 2026 Festival.
