On 20 May, Perpetuo will join actor Alex Jennings for an evening beside the Thames at All Saints’ Church, Marlow, presented by Chiltern Arts as part of their 2026 Festival.
Water is the Softest Thing traces a river’s journey from source to sea, pairing chamber music with readings from classic and contemporary writers to build a single unfolding narrative rather than a conventional concert sequence. Fenella Humphreys (violin), Eoin Schmidt-Martin (viola), Cara Berridge (cello) and James Turnbull (oboe) will be joined by Jennings — known for The Crown and The Lady in the Van — for a programme ranging from Sibelius and Britten to the UK premiere of Anna Berg’s Earthward, Ever Circling, alongside Mozart, Schubert, Sally Beamish and Schumann.
