We are pleased to announce that with the very welcome support of Arts Council England, our inaugural ColLABorator sessions will be culminating in an informal sharing session on 18th October. This event will run from 6-7pm in the Creation Space at artsdepot in North Finchley and will showcase some of the projects we’ve been developing as part of our ColLABorator sessions.

We began our exploration of new ideas for future performances in June with a #CreationSpace residency at artsdepot in North Finchley. As well as working with the composer, Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Songspiel and Drew Colby (Britain’s only full time shadowgrapher) we were joined by choreographers Lucia Schweigert and Owen Ridley-DeMonick.

‘The Thought Machine’ is a project that brings musicians of Ensemble Perpetuo together with the singers and pianist of SongSpiel to perform music by Cheryl Frances-Hoad. This collection of short pieces feature a libretto by Kate Wakeling and feature the incredible shadow puppetry of Drew Colby. We began work on this together in June which culminated in a sharing session at METAL in Peterborough in late August.

We were particularly thrilled to be joined again by Lucia Schweigert who collaborated with us for CITYSCAPES in our debut at 47/49 Tanner Street in April 2015. Together with Lucia, we are exploring aspects of grief by bringing together music by Wagner and Bach as well as others for a future dance collaboration project.

Our next collaborator was Owen Ridley-DeMonick who we have been waiting to collaborate with for over a year. We worked with Owen on various music by Nico Muhly and Thea Musgrave and exploring ways to choreograph this music.

Our time with the ColLABorator sessions was also spent preparing Janacek’s Mladi accompanied by the fantastic photography exhibition curated by London Photo Festival.

Last but not least, we began work on our new Goldberg Variations project where we experiment with aspects of concert presentation and using space to allow audience members to experience the music in a more immersive manner.

At Perpetuo, our collaborations and experimentation with concert presentation are aspects that we are trying to constantly develop and evolve. We’d be thrilled to hear from people who’ve attended our events in the past or perhaps are interested in seeing our future work. Help us shape our next season of events by joining us for our informal sharing session:
